TM HSBB launched…UniFi

Finally!!! Our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has launched three broadband packages being introduced by Telekom Malaysia under a new high-speed broadband (HSBB) service called UniFi. The launch venue will be opened from 7.00pm onwards and the HSBB showcase and interactive exhibitions will remain at Dataran Merdeka until Thursday evening (March 25).

What’s so special about this HSBB?

High Speed Broadband (HSBB) is a broadband service that offers bandwidth delivered at network speeds of 10Mbps and above.  Unlike normal broadband connections which deliver bandwidth at network speeds ranging between 384kbps and 4Mbps, basic HSBB packages will eventually allow Malaysians to experience high speed Internet of up to 100 times faster than the usual rate while businesses will be able to have maximum speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps (1Gbps).

HSBB will initially be deployed via fiber in the inner  Klang Valley, Iskandar Malaysia and key industrial zones throughout the country. It is expected that 1.3 million premises will have the ability to access HSBB coverage by end 2012.

Currently, HSBB service is only available in 4 main exchange areas, namely Shah Alam, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail (TTDI), Bangsar and Subang Jaya. You can check more detail here for the HSBB readiness in your area. Or, take a look at this FAQ for more information.

Also, 3 different packages will be offered to the public, starting from the speeds of 5Mbps, 10Mbps and 20Mbps. According to the rumors, these packages will be priced from RM 150 to RM 300. Official pricing plan will be released tomorrow and we shall stay tune for the updates. :)
